Ir Amim’s tour is held in collaboration
with the Konrad Adenauer Israel Foundation. The city of Jerusalem is known by many descriptions – among them “a united Jerusalem”. Indeed, after 19 years of separation, West and East Jerusalem were united in 1967; the fence separating Israel and Jordan was dismantled, and a border no longer runs through the city center. But is Jerusalem actually a united city? Everyday reality suggests that perhaps, this is not the case. In this tour, we will get to know the reality of life in East Jerusalem. We will learn about the changing borders of the city and its residents – whose notable majority are not citizens of the State of Israel. We will hear about possibilities and barriers to an agreed political future and we will examine this in light of the great tension in the city.
